An American couple has been committed to the International Crimes Division of the High Court to start trial on charges of aggrevated trafficking in children, torture of a 10year old boy, unlawful stay in Uganda and working without a work permit.
This is after state attorney Joan Keko informed the presiding Buganda Road Court Magistrate Sarah Tusiime Bashaijja, that investigations into the case against Mackeinze Leing Spencer and her husband Nicholas Spencer is complete.
At trial the Director of Public Prosecutions intends to bring evidence from the couple’s house maid, who watched and captured on her phone the unbecoming conduct and corresponding purnishments given to the victim by the accused persons and she reported a case of torture to Kira road Police Station.
Evidence before court reveals that the minor was isolated in a cold tiled room where he used to sit in one position naked, fed on frozen food, under surveilance 24/7.
The DPP will further bring evidence to show that the couple came to Uganda in 2017 and their Visas/work permit/ special pass expired between 21st/September/2022 and 30th/November/2022 and they were never renewed .
The couple has been further remanded as they await trial before the International Crimes Division of the High Court.
Mackeinze and Spencer have been in prison since last year 2022.
