The inaugural Africa Commercial Courts Summit has resolved to strengthening commercial justice through enhanced use of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR).
Held at Munyonyo Kampala under the theme “Effective Commercial Dispute Resolution for Africa,” the summit brought together Chief Justices and judicial delegations from across Africa.
Uganda’s Chief Justice Alfonse Chigamoy Owiny-Dollo, who chairs the Africa Chief Justices ADR Forum, noted that the forum has grown from 16 to 22 member judiciaries since March 2024, reflecting strong continental support for ADR.
Daniel J. DeWalt from Pepperdine University called the summit a bold step toward justice transformation.
Lady Justice Jumoke Pedro of Lagos said ADR has already proven successful in Nigeria.
Fourteen Chief Justices and country representatives signed the resolutions, which are expected to advance Africa’s progress toward the African Union’s Agenda 2063 and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
