Samuel Muhindo Musyenene, who works as a cashier for MK Cash Express Limited, a money remittance company in Kampala, was committed to the High Court by Grade One Magistrate Esther Asiimwe.
The decision followed a submission by State Attorney Jonathan Muwaganya that investigations into the case had been completed.
Prosecution alleges that Muhindo entered Uganda through Kikorongo-Mpondwe in Kasese District on July 4, 2026, carrying USD 1,596,250 in two bags.
According to the prosecution, security officers intercepted a bus carrying several Congolese nationals during an operation in the area.
The travellers were taken to Kikorongo Police Station where he disclosed that he was carrying large amount of money.
However, Muhindo allegedly failed to provide evidence showing that he had declared the money when entering Uganda.
Prosecution says the amount was above the legal limit, requiring travellers to report large amounts of foreign currency at the border.
Muhindo will now remain on remand at Luzira Prison as he awaits the High Court to schedule his trial
