National Unity Platform presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine has cancelled his planned campaign in Kalangala district.
“We decided to call off our campaigns in Kalangala after we got credible information that the government had organised to harm me and the people I move with. So for safety of these people, we decided not to go there,” Bobi Wine said on Friday.
Kalangala is the district where he was arrested last week and his entire campaign team detained for days in Masaka prisons.
Some of the members and supporters were released on Thursday but his singing partner Nubian Li and Eddie Mutwe (head of his personal bodyguards) were instead taken into military custody.
According to reports, they were Friday produced in the General Court Martial in Makindye, charged and remanded to the military prison.
Daily Monitor had earlier reported that the group would appear before the General Court Martial after they were transferred from Masaka prison to Makindye Military Barracks in Kampala.
In a statement, Bobi Wine said Gen. Museveni thinks he can break him by tormenting some of the comrades closest to him.
“Despite court ordering for the release of Nubian Li and other team members, they were instead taken to Makindye military prison in total disregard of the court order! They have to-date been denied access to lawyers, doctors and family members.”
“Museveni has previously tried very hard to compromise them. People like Nubian Li and Eddie Mutwe have been offered crazy sums of money, but they have laughed at the dictator and stuck to the cause.”
