The Highcourt in Kampala has released on bail an American Couple which is accused of Trafficking and torturing their ten year old son.
Presiding Judge Isaac Muwata ordered Mackenzie and Nicholas Spencer, each to pay cash 50 million shillings and deposit their respective passports / travel documents to court before their release .
This was after a successful application for bail by their lawyer Daudi Mpanga, who told Court that his clients are ill and their illness couldnot be managed in prison.
In the ruling the judge barred the couple from moving out of Uganda without seeking permission from court .
Last week, Mackenzie and Nicholas residents of Naguru Hill in Kampala were committed to the International Crimes Division of the High Court in Kampala Uganda, to start trial on four counts that include; Aggrevated Trafficking in Children , Torture of their ten year old adopted son , Unlawful stay in Uganda and Employment without a work permit.
This was on the instruction of the Director of Public Prosecutions who plans to bring evidence of a house maid who worked at the Couple’s home, between December/2020 and December/2022.
That this house helper watched and captured on her phone the unbecoming conduct and corresponding purnishments given to a ten year old by the accused persons; and she reported a case of torture at Kira road Police Station.
The maid narrates that the minor was isolated in a cold tiled room, sitting naked on a cold floor in one position , fed on frozen food and was undersurveilance 24/7.
Mackenzie and Nicholas Spencer both aged 32years came into Uganda in 2017 and adopted the said Children.
