These including Dr. Mulyansaka Charles and Twebaze Drake commonly known as Dr. John Karuhanga are alleged to be part of a wider fraud network that orchestrated a fake transaction to supply a chemical, purportedly used to reduce carbon emissions in automotive engines.
According to the State House Anti-Corruption Unit, the accused persons targeted several government ministries, including the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development and the Ministry of Works and Transport.
According to prosecution, the accused used various electronic methods, including emails and WhatsApp messages, to contact Justine Stocks of TMA Africa Limited with the intent to defraud him of USD 4.95 million.
They allegedly forged documents and stamps claiming to originate from the Bank of Uganda and the Ministry of Works and Transport, which investigations have since found to be false.
The suspects denied all the charges and were remanded until October 29, 2025, as investigations continue.
