What remains is for the Commission to formally declare Magogo unopposed.
Mulirire an NRM-leaning Independent, had been considered Magogo’s strongest challenger.
However, the Commission ruled that he failed to provide proof that he resigned from the Uganda Police Force before nomination, which is required by the Parliamentary Elections Act.
The decision by EC followed a petition filed by Ibrahim Yeko challengingthe nomination of Mulirire on ground that he never resigned from from police before nomination.
Mulirire’s lawyer, Jude Byamukama, disagreed with the ruling, saying his client left the Police three years earlier and that the law does not require attaching resignation proof to nomination papers.
Byamukama said the Commission was adding conditions which are not provided for in the law.
The decision comes after ballot papers for the January 15, 2026 election had already been printed, and other opponents of Magogo had earlier been disqualified.
