The Electoral Commission has officially closed nominations for the positions of Lord Mayor, LC5 chairpersons, and councillors today at 5:00 pm in all cities, districts and municipalities.
The Kampala Returning Officer Rashid Hasakya said that despite a few challenges, the exercise went on smoothly and reiterated his earlier call to aspirants not to engage in campaigns until they are officially cleared to do so.
Among those nominated for the position of Kampala Lord Mayor is incumbent Erias Lukwago of the PFF party, Beatrice Mao for DP, Ibrahim Kasozi for FDC, Nsubuga Balimwezo of NUP, independent candidate Nabbilah Naggayi and NRM’s Moses Kizito Nsubuga, who pledged to focus on developing the city, reviving the night economy, and restoring the will of the people.
However, the process was not without drama as Namujjuzi Nashiba was turned away after failing to present the required documentation.
She was arrested and taken to Kira Road police station as investigations continues.
