The General Court Martial at Makindye has sentenced 16 NUP supporters who pleaded guilty to the offence of Treachery to serve 3 months and 22 days in jail.
The group was sentenced to 5 years but the court considered the 3 years and 8 Months spent on remand, 16 months spent while attending trial, them pleading guilty and the fact that they are sole breadwinners of their young families, the court then ordered that they serve 3 months and 22 days.
However, the accused wailed before court seeking to be pardoned by the president.
The Convict include Olivia Lutaaya, Kakooza Muhydin Rashid Ssegujja, David Mafabi, Robert Christopher Rugumayo and Abdul Matovu.
Others are Messarch Kiwanuka, Simon Kijambu, Ibrahim Wandera, Stanley Lwanga, Steven Musaakaru, Ronald Kijjambu, Asubat Nagwere, Livingstone Katushabe, Matovu Sharif and Swaibu Katabi.
On Monday 21 October,2024 the group accepted that between November 2020 and May 12, 2021 in various places in Jinja, Mbale, Kireka, Nakulabye, Kawempe, Nateete and Kampala Central, they were arrested with 13 Improvised explosive devices which are a monopoly of only the UPDF.
They further accepted that during the same period with an intention of overthrowing the Government of Uganda, they recruited and offered Military training to other people.
