Three protected victim witnesses have testified before the International Crimes Division of the High Court in the case against six suspects, accused of multiple robberies and murders around the city including attempting to murder Works and Transport Minister Gen. Edward Katumba Wamala, and also killing his daughter Brenda Katumba and driver Haruna Kayondo.
The witnesses who included a Shopkeeper, a security guard and real estate dealer narrated to the panel of four Judges led by Richard Wabwire how they survived a deadly shooting at Cheap Hardware in Nansana on 29th May, 2019.
The first witness, a 36-year-old storekeeper, narrated how sudden gunfire erupted as he stepped out of the store, striking his shoulder and thumb as he attempted to escape.
A second witness, a food delivery worker, testified that he saw two masked gunmen, before he was shot under a truck where he had crawled for safety, as gunfire continued for nearly ten minutes.
The third witness, a 56-year-old real estate dealer, gave the most detailed testimony, describing how a bullet tore through his thigh and exited through his private parts as attackers demanded safe keys.
All three were rushed to hospital after the attack and were treated for multiple injuries.
