The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Election Disputes Tribunal has today commenced hearings for the final 14 petitions arising from the party’s recently concluded internal elections.
The cases under consideration mainly concern disputes over positions on the Central Executive Committee (CEC) and the National Executive Council (NEC).
According to a statement from Tribunal Chairperson John Musiime, this marks the last phase of the panel’s work, which began on July 29.
Musiime revealed that the Tribunal has so far concluded and delivered written rulings in 813 petitions. Of these, 431 related to Parliamentary races, 193 to Local Council V, and 189 to Local Council III contests.
He reiterated the Tribunal’s commitment to resolving the outstanding cases in strict adherence to the NRM Election Regulations and commended tribunal members, registry staff, and support teams for their dedication throughout the process.
Among the high-profile cases heard today is a petition by NRM youth leaders challenging the election of Tanga Collins as National Youth League Chairperson. Collins, son of NRM Electoral Commission Chairperson Dr. Tanga Odoi, is accused of benefiting from electoral malpractice.
