The State Minister for Finance, Amos Lugolobi, has been cleared of corruption charges after the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Jane Frances Abodo, withdrew the case against him.
In a letter which was tendered to Court today 11 November,2025, the DPP informed the Anti-Corruption Court that she had lost interest in prosecuting Lugolobi over allegations of misusing 700 pieces of iron sheets meant for vulnerable communities in Karamoja.
Lugolobi was arrested in June 2023 and charged with two counts of dealing with suspect property.
The prosecution alleged that he had used part of the iron sheets to roof his goat shed in Kayunga District.
The case had reached an advanced stage, with 15 witnesses testifying against him.
However, when the matter came up for further defence hearing, state prosecutor Gloria Nzikuru presented a withdrawal letter, effectively ending the trial.
Trial judge Jane Kajuga subsequently discharged Lugolobi and ordered the return of his Shs 20 million cash bail, land title, and national ID.
The withdrawal of charges against Lugoloobi, leaves former Karamoja Affairs ministers Mary Goretti Kitutu and Agnes Nandutu as the only high-profile officials still facing trial over the iron sheets scandal.
