Forty-one supporters of the National Unity Platform (NUP) have been remanded by the Kanyanya Chief Magistrates Court on charges of incitement to violence, allegedly committed during a rally addressed by NUP President Robert Kyagulanyi Sentamu in Kawempe.
The group appeared before different magistrates, including Grade One Magistrate Angella Ayola,
They are accused of mobilising the public to cause harm and provoking violence against security personnel.
Prosecution alleges that on 24 November,2025, at Kanyanya-Lutunda Zone, the accused made statements encouraging attacks on police officers and destruction of property.
All 41 denied the charges, prompting the state to seek more time for investigations.
State Attorney Cathy Nakagwa informed court that inquiries in one file were complete, while others were still ongoing.
The suspects were remanded to Kitalya and Luzira prisons.
The arrests followed violent clashes during Kyagulanyi’s campaign in Kawempe South, where police fired tear gas and live bullets to disperse crowds, and some supporters reportedly hurled stones at officers.
Several people were injured, and police allegedly used canine dogs, a move condemned by Uganda Law Society President Anthony Asiimwe.
The 41 join 11 other NUP supporters earlier remanded on related charges.
