The General Court Martial at Makindye has convicted 16 NUP supporters of Treachery in a court session where no cameras have been allowed.
The 16 are; Olivia Lutaaya, Kakooza Muhydin Rashid Ssegujja, David Mafabi, Robert Christopher Rugumayo and Abdul Matovu.
Others are Messarch Kiwanuka, Simon Kijambu, Ibrahim Wandera, Stanley Lwanga, Steven Musaakaru, Ronald Kijjambu, Asubat Nagwere, Livingstone Katushabe, Matovu Sharif and Swaibu Katabi.
The prosecution read to them the facts concerning the offenses against them.
The group , which has been on remand for about 4 years, accepted before the court’s chairman Brig. Gen Freeman Mugabe that between November 2020 and May 12, 2021 in various places in Jinja, Mbale, Kireka, Nakulabye, Kawempe, Nateete and Kampala Central, they were arrested with 13 Improvised explosive devices which are a monopoly of only the UPDF.
The further accepted that during the same period with an intention of overthrowing the Government of Uganda, they recruited and offered Military training to other people.
After conviction the group has ordered them to return to court on Wednesday the 23rd/ October to receive their respective punishments/ sentences.
Meanwhile the same court has released on bail a one Achileo Kivumbi ; a private body guard to NUP president Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu .
Kivumbi has been ordered to pay 2 million shillings cash before his release and he has been restricted from leaving Kampala without the General Court’s permission.
Kivumbi is charged with unlawful possession of pimps which are a preserve of Armed forces
