The Judiciary has created eight Court of Appeal Circuits across the country, in a major reform intended to bring appellate justice closer to the people and ease pressure on the Court of Appeal in Kampala.
The new arrangement is aimed at reducing case backlog, cutting down appeal timelines, and lowering the cost of accessing justice for Court users and advocates.
It is also expected to improve efficiency and effectiveness in the delivery of justice nationwide.
Under the new structure, the Court of Appeal will sit in Arua, Fort Portal, Gulu, Jinja, Masaka, Mbale, Mbarara, and Mubende.
The move will allow court users to access appellate services within their regions of residence and operation, instead of traveling to Kampala.
According to the Judiciary, the establishment of the circuits is part of broader efforts to strengthen access to justice, improve service delivery, and enhance public confidence in the justice system.
