The military court had suspended proceedings in January 2025 following a landmark ruling that ordered reforms, and barred the tribunal from trying civilians and handling offences not related to military service.
The Supreme Court also directed that its members be appointed on the recommendation of the Judicial Service Commission
Following the directive, Brigadier General Richard Tukacungurwa was appointed to chair the reconstituted court.
Today 12 February,2026, the court read out murder charges against Sergeant Jotham Karamuzi, an enforcement officer with the National Forestry Authority attached to the Greater Masaka region.
Karamuzi is jointly charged with 11 civilians over the alleged kidnap, robbery and killing of Munyarandizi Geoffrey Juma on 01 December,2025.
All the accused persons denied the charges, and the case was adjourned.
