The Highcourt in Kampala has issued an injunction stopping the removal of Dr. Samuel Oledo Odongo from the Office of the president of the Uganda Medical Association .
According to a ruling by Head of the civil Division of the Highcourt Justice Musa Ssekaana, the injunction is to last until the final disposal of Dr. Oledo’s main case in which he questions procedures adopted Uganda Medical Association’s secretariat when removing him from Office.
This means Dr. Oledo is still the recognised elected president of the Uganda Medical Association after the judge staying the implementation of the December 6th resolution and the subsequent election of Dr. Edith Nakku Joloba as acting president .
In his ruling delivered via email, justice Sekaana noted that at the time of filing this case on the 9th/December 2022, Dr .Oledu was still in the office of the president but members of the UMA in total disregard of the case went ahead and replaced him.
Justice Ssekaana contends that court cannot be overrun through these illgalities and mob decisions hence re-instating Dr. Oledu back in office pending final determination of his case before Court.
The judge further considered that if this injunction was not issued , Dr. Oledu was likely to suffer an irreparable damage .
The Court noted that it was equitable and just to issue an injunction as it investigates whether a decision and resolution made by UMA to impeach Dr Oledo was rooted with in the law.
UMA secretariat resolved to censure Dr. Oledu after accusing him of participating in partisan politics .
The secretariat alleges that Dr. Oledu mobilised Medical students through their umbrella body ” The Federation of Uganda Medical interns” and promised them refreshments and a photo moment with president Museveni at Kololo Indepedence grounds.
That while there , they knelt before the president of Uganda and asked him to come back and contest in 2026 Presidential elections.
Accoridng to UMA , this is not its position and it was an embarrassment to the medical profession.
